So, what happened? How did mysteriousness and mysticism get replaced by boredom? Is it more than just older men? Yes and no (And they kind of go together, ‘respectfully’). But it has definitely gotten stale. Even many of the Lodges haven’t been updated in years. The insult is that many (probably most) of these Brethren know this. They are aware of the membership numbers, they are aware of their age, they have noticed how different Millennials are than they are/were, and yet nothing is really done about it. Oh, sure a video is made here and there, and a Brother gives a lecture every now and then, but it doesn’t raise the lights in the Lodge. It does not feed the young man’s spark enough. Other than scheduling his next “Degree,” the young man is left alone to figure things out. This is shameful in that everything is based on his desire to obtain a Compass. The stairs. (watch the language here. ‘Respectfully’) Everything this Young Man Needs to free his mind is in-between the walls of Lodge. But, Currently, he has Very Little Guidance.

There are two exceptions. Two men rather, who have the most influence over the young man. The Worshipful Master of the Lodge for that year, which is like the Captain of a Ship, and another Brother, who is known simply as the “Candidate Coach.” This Brother spends more time with the young initiate, as he is raised and goes through the process of Masonry, than any other being. The literal role of the Coach position is to tutor the young man in memorizing what transpired in the Lodge room. But

These Brothers I speak of, have themselves become more Conservative with age. Which for most (probably) is natural. Getting older isn’t fun, and identifying our likes and dislikes become easier and quicker. And back in the day, this would have transpired as well. The issue though is that the next wave of Masons, from the subsequent Generation, is not in place to take over the reigns of an individual Lodge, let along the Fraternal Order. Yes, some young men become Masters (Captain) of the Lodge at a young age. And it’s an amazing accomplishment given the necessary time required inside Lodge to reach that position. However, just because that younger-in-age Mason is the Worshipful Master for the year, it in no way translates to his being in charge of the Lodge. It’s his room when Lodge is opened. But the ‘managers’ resume control the next morning. And these individuals are the Treasurer, Secretary, and Past Masters of the Lodge. And you will be hard-pressed to find a Lodge in the world, but for sure here in the United States, where more than two or three of these ‘managers’ are under the age of 40. But you will assuredly find that at least half of them will be over the age of 60. And thus, given the connectivity of Masonry, through its common practices/recognitions in our Masonic Lodges, whether so dispersed around the world, we have progressed/evolved as have these older men (especially those in the positions of influence) have in their lives. And, whether willing to accept it or not, too many of these Baby Boomer Brethren were so concerned with properly “managing the Lodge,” and keeping the “Modern-Conservative” approach at the forefront (to the detriment of the Ancient interpretations), that they filed to keep an eye on the up and coming Generation behind them. Little to no insight was learned about the younger Brethren, because it was so well thought and established that only through years and years of study, and becoming an Officer in “the Line,” is it even possible to begin to know the hidden mysteries of Masonry. The wisdom of this approach has now been realized. Our Fraternal Order is now at 25% of the membership it once was. And the older Brethren still don’t have a real plan. Rarely older men do. The Younger Men Are The Future (women 2). They have the vision because it is their lives, and their Children’s Lives that Are Before them. Respectfully, the Older Men have Most of their Years Behind Them. Which is Alright…if they Let Go of Control. Which they don’t know how to do. Hence, the Necessity of Young Men to Engage In the Fight…and Younger Masons to Understand.

Act III

What do we know today? We know that Earth has been alive and #around before we were here. Long beforehand. (and that it is round for a reason), #Boston. We have all seen bones in the ground from living, breathing creatures, like the dinosaurs and monkeys and man when he looked different than he does today (like in the #Geico commercial). It goes back forever and forever ago. Right? We are all in agreement on this, correct? We can agree on a starting point before the birth of Jesus, right? Because he would want us to. He knew his History. And we need to start there as a reference point because, Masonically, it isn’t about religion. It is about Belief in a Higher Power, a Higher Being, a Higher Vibe, a Higher What-have-U. And, despite what some seem to suggest and “Practice,” #Belief was around before a very cool, and very skinny, bearded Jew was born in a barn. And Again, he would #Agree. And those Millions, Billions, and Gazillions, of souls that came beforehand, each with its own purpose, (its species developing through “Evolution,” and the unknown, and the acceptable) did not go to Church. The Church was above. It was in the stars, and beyond what the eye could see. (Kinda like it is supposed to be with regular Church as we know it today, (and in Lodge)). But while there was not “Christianity” (which includes Roman Catholicism), real things happened. Real storms and real floods and real death. There has always been real death on a grand scale (especially when including religion, and in modern times, especially when looking at Organized Religious Institution(s) vs. free-thinking.

And as extreme as some of the stories seem to be, there is a constant Theme throughout. And that is, whatever circumstance was transpiring at the time, whether a flood, or a drought, or war, there was always an individual in position who appeared to know what to do, or in which direction to at least travel in. He had some knowledge, from somewhere, that served as a #Guide. Even under the most extreme of circumstances. Am I suggesting that Noah was a Mason? Not necessarily. Am I suggesting that if a place existed near where Noah lived that was similar to a Masonic Lodge, or with a similar library, would he have at least spent time in there? Of course. Absolutely. Well, actually, it would depend on how much time he had. He was a pretty busy Guy.

Because that is why certain men, throughout History (and these are just the men we have heard of. Most remain quiet, and subtle, and out of the spotlight). Like the true origin of where, when, and how the Department of Homeland Security came to be. Or why Buzz Aldrin, the second man, and first Mason, to step foot on the Moon took out his Masonic handkerchief and Washed in in the Moon dust. Trust story. And Why would he have done that? What might he have known that would lead Generate him doing such a thing?

Masons, whether on Earth, Or Out On The Moon, have been in the Necessary Position(s), Under Certain Circumstances, During a Time of significant Transition, to Guide/Direct. Because just by being in the possible position illustrates that they must have known something. It’s either Coincidence or Magic. And there are All Kinds of Magic.

For example, we all agree on a Very Few Instances in which civilizations have started over. In fact, we know of instances where more than just civilization found itself in such a circumstance. Some accept the flood and the story of Noah. Hopefully most understand that The Dinosaurs were actually here one week and gone the next (most suspect a Meteor, which is probably the cause and would make the most sense). We do not doubt that an Ice Age occurred here, whereby life as we know it would not have been able to exist. All of this is real. It really happened. Now whether you to choose to believe (in) it, like everything else affiliated with Masonry, is in the heart and mind of the #Beholder.

ACT 4

So how is this all brought back to the here and now? How does it relate? And is it even Relevant? We have established that much of the older Brethren run the Order. As are most in attendance at Lodge on any given Evening. And we know that Lodges, for awhile now, emphasize the Modern/Conservative perspective. “Modern” because, as we are told by our Officers, what we do and how we do it was composed 300-400 hundred hears ago in England. All the rituals, and traditional aspects of being a Mason, especially Line (Make sure that brief explanation included previously).

Especially Given that Masonry, since the Beginning, has been about, and for, ‘Young Men With Old Soul(s).’ And a Soul Ages, Along With Its Skin.’ (Washington) Just as years begin to add up for us all. Older and Younger. It’s not fun getting older. In fact, I’m sure at times it really sucks. But the Baby Boomers had lived enough of a life, years-wise, to look back on. This isn’t about them (which they have a hard time accepting generally). It is about the younger men. It’s about Survival, Not Just Age. Especially during a period in time of significant transition.

How does this Ancient connection relate, realistically, to a Masonic Lodge in the 21stCentury? And what about a/the Brother who is a Past Master in a Lodge, and has been attending for the past 25 years, and who has absolutely no idea about any of this)? The Brother who when someone mentions, “The Pillars of Freemasonry,” he knows only of the two columns in a Lodge room that greet each and every Candidate when they open and Cross through the door at each step of their becoming a Master Mason journey? Or when the word, “Landmarks,” are mentioned, the Brother who doesn’t know what that is referring to. How can Masonry evolve if so many of the older generation spent all their time in Ritual and meetings and dinners? The answer is the same here as is anywhere and elsewhere. It is up to the Youth. It is up to the same age of man that was present in the 1700’s at the Green Dragon Tavern, that was on the ship in Boston and threw the tea in the harbor, the same age of man who yearned to express his creativity and mind in England and France, the same age of man who returned home a victorious hero in the early and mid 1940’s. Men to develop a plan, raise support, and Fight for a Belief/Cause. A Belief that Requires All of the Spirit that they Possess(s). #YouTube. If you Know Things from Before.

Interview Question – What’s a Landmark? (MD vs. PGM).

Final Part – If/when this young man described above travels through the doors, what is in place to provide him a path to discovery?

There needs to be Options for the Young Man. There needs to be opportunity for him to maximize his time in Lodge, and utilize the resources available to him. For example, if a young sailor is about to initiated in the Fraternal Order, and we have with a World War II Veteran, they must connect. Masonically. And the Baby Boomer Generation, at least in Lodge, but really also outside of Lodge as well, has failed to really learn how to connect with those outside of their Generation (familial exceptions of course). The Baby Boomers have been too busy focused on making $, and running the business, and getting Divorcedto spend time with the Generations behind them.

Journey Groups…led by those who know a thing or two. #PilotsKnow

The young man who is 27 years old today, born in 1991, has a different perspective than a 60-65-year-old Brother. How could he not? It has nothing to do with this person or that person, per se. It has to do with the Issue(s) of the day. Just like in 1752/3, 1775, 1812, 1914, and 1940, the color of a man’s ballot was not the most important part about him. It was not the single-most important perspective to have. It was not what connected one neighbor to the other. This does not mean to suggest that color is not relevant, by any and all means to the contrary it is. As Many Know. What it means is that we have become blinded to color. Too many have narrowed and limited their interpretations and connections with the colors they recognize.

And it needs to be that 27-year-old young man, with a newer lease on life, particularly who has walked through our Masonic doors, to develop the necessary tools to be able to see better. And recognize colors in their true form. Because if and when that times comes, where darkness threatens to consume light, there will be the necessary Vision in place to see, and help others see as well.

(FAITH THEME) – From the jump/beginning, people were skeptical and suspicious of the purpose and potential outcome. It was all so new and very different than anyone had ever heard of. It was only because of the men known to be in attendance (including Washington and Franklin), that the IDEA was even kept alive. Given the leadership that would be required to overcome such differences of perspective/backgrounds/egos/interests/etc. the true nature of man would be tested (and hence why a Mason was always Managing the conference). And the Common thread amongst and throughout these men, and throughout the Statehouse, was a shared Belief. Not so much Faith (as religion was to be separated from Government, but as exemplified by Brother Franklin, who advocated that Reason and Thought were to lead the way. And as a Mason, so too would a shared Spirit of belief in FREEDOM.

Rather, it’s an overall outlook on life. It is how things are viewed, and processed, interpreted and analyzed, reacted to and believed in, Generally. And this is Very Much influenced by what we put in our bodies. How we connect with everything.

Because there is an interesting observation I have made thus far in my time on Earth. It seems to be that the younger someone is, the more they Believe in things. And the older someone gets, the less they Believe in. And I find that interesting, because it seems to me illogical: because on the one hand, U having lived more and more years, and seen more and more new things, and meeting new people all the time, and hearing stories from friends and family…how could that not expand your horizons (like the Founders discussed in the Green Dragon Tavern those centuries ago) of what is possible? How would that not lead you to wonder how much more is out there that you may not have seen, or that you may not have heard of/about? It doesn’t all end with who you talk to daily, or now and then. It doesn’t just stop with co-workers, people at the gym, or strangers you communicate with you. It goes beyond your family members, those you know and those you may not.

Alternatively, just take a trip sometime, for a few minutes, on #Instagram. There is so much to see and just be #Amazed with. There are places, with colors, with light, with architecture, and with designs, that you can feel. There are people who don’t look like those in your towns, wearing colors you haven’t seen before, and food that looks delicious, but you have absolutely no idea what it is or how it tastes. And it’s ok that you are not there inside the picture. Because the point is that you are there. You are seeing and feeling so much of the Wonder that is Earth (provides). And then, because you are there, you begin to/achieve connect with the purpose of it all. Of the Higher purpose. And your role within it.

Point is, still on this side, you learn so much as you get older. Experience Teaches. Hopefully the recipient learns. It is accepted that with age, and the experiences that come with, comes a necessary #Knowledge. And that Knowledge is what separates us. And a Variety of Species. And I know what some may say…they would yawn, and probably say that they do, in fact, know what there is to Believe in. Some would be dismissive, and mention family, friends, country and other Nouns. Others, especially those of an older Generation would say, Jesus Christ, and that’s it. (Which is Amazing to me…that it’s possible to Believe in that epic of a someone, but not much else). They have developed a tendency to smirk at a notion they think is fancy (#Modern-Conservative #FraternalOrder), and/or dismiss that which is too far out there for them. Instead, they seem to be guided by an assuredness that their perspective is right. That they have been around longer, and have seen more things, and know how everything works, to be in a better position to handle everything. That their way is the highway, and rightway. They seem to be so locked in on everything. At the expense of those, who by taking a different path that they don’t know of/about, know a thing or two. A #Thing or #Two. (X) #Rocky

AND YET…on the other hand…if none of that is true, if you find yourself realizing that much more of what you see and hear in life is bull-@#$&, and you are just trying to survive, and not get sick, and maybe go on a vacation at some point. We all know too well the realities of frustration, and disappointment, and grief…as we all experience…but what if it seems that life is just hard a bit more often than it seems it ought to be…where you can’t help but Sometimes Wonder…whether what’s Above late at night, or what’s below when you look upon an Ocean. You Know What IM talking About. But then…would that not make it all the More Meaningful & Necessary to Believe in something or somethings? Or just Things in General? To Believe in a Way. A Light. A Mood. A Vibe…Would that Not Make more sense? That, surely, Life Must Be More Enjoyable Than This. Because It Is! It Can Be! But Only if U Believe. Just like the Masons with the Compass.

Because even if you are not into Magic, you at least now know where many of the formulas are hidden, and where some of the “special tools” can be discovered. And even where some of Them coMe from.

Because the True secret of A Master Mason Is……(fade to Black screen Generally, And Ask Johnny)
